Abstract

The objective of this review is to determine the most relevant characteristics of Fusobacterium nucleatum, which is a commensal microorganism of the oral cavity, its ability to act as a bridge between early and late colonizers in the formation of dental biofilm is known, but in addition Its great capacity to colonize, invade and activate pro-inflammatory cytokines, give it great importance for its action as a local and distant pathogen, since it has been isolated in different tissues and organs of the human body. The methodology for collecting and obtaining information for the development of the review is based on relevant articles on the subject, obtained from scientific databases such as: PubMed, Hinari, Wiley, Scielo, among others. This review tried to describe and understand a little more about this bacterium, which is part of the orange complex, according to Socransky. Concluding that this microorganism is of relevance in the pathogenesis of periodontal diseases.
