Artificial intelligence in Peruvian schools: risks, benefits, and challenges

Abstract

This research aims to determine the main risks, benefits, and challenges arising from the use of artificial intelligence in schools in Peru. This research applied a qualitative approach based on secondary sources, using a content analysis technique focused on the systematic examination of 10 videos of expert presentations and interviews, 10 local and international academic articles, and 10 academic publications, including government publications, local newspaper articles, and applied research reports.

The selection criteria were based on identifying sources from the last 4 years that were produced by competent institutions or experts in the sector with local and global recognition. From these sources, a process of information categorization was carried out to analyze the results.

The findings indicate risks related to a lack of academic integrity in the use of AI and differences in the acces for technological resources. Meanwhile, the main benefits are oriented toward the generation of efficient pedagogical operational processes and the optimal use of resources. Similarly, challenges exist in the creation of an integrated, equitable, and sustainable system in Peruvian schools.

In conclusion, this research, based on a theoretical analysis, determines that AI is a disruptive innovation that transforms education. Furthermore, in the Peruvian context, it has great potential for the personalization of teaching, pedagogical support for teachers, and the generation of efficient operational processes.
